How to Deactivate Voicemail on an iPhone?

Modified on Tue, 23 Apr at 7:57 AM

Method 1: Disabling Voicemail in Your Settings

  1. Open the "Settings" app on your iPhone.
  2. Scroll down and tap on the "Phone" option.
  3. In the "Phone" settings, locate and tap on "Voicemail."
  4. Toggle off the "Voicemail" option to deactivate it.
  5. Exit the settings, and voicemail will be deactivated.

Method 2: Disabling Voicemail Forwarding with a Shortcode

  1. Open the Phone app on your iPhone.
  2. Tap the Keypad icon (the fourth icon at the bottom of the screen).
  3. Dial the voicemail deactivation code: #004# (for most GSM providers worldwide). Note that this shortcode may not work for prepaid or pay-as-you-go plans.
  4. Tap the phone icon and wait for the message “Please wait.”
  5. After a few moments, you’ll see a screen full of text. The first section relates to voice call forwarding. If it says “Setting Deactivated Succeeded,” you’ve successfully disabled voicemail. To confirm, call yourself from another phone—if you’re not routed to voicemail, it worked!
  6. To reactivate voicemail, dial *004# at any time.

Method 3: Contacting Your Carrier

  1. Open the Phone app (green-and-white phone receiver icon).
  2. Dial your carrier’s customer service phone number. Speak with them directly to permanently disable voicemail. Keep in mind that this method will delete saved greetings, messages, and settings.
